Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

Chateau Montelena's rich history began in 1882 with the purchase of 284 acres at the base of Mount Saint Helena (two miles north of Calistoga), by San Francisco entrepreneur, Alfred Tubbs. By 1896 his winery, christened Chateau Montelena (a contracted form of Mount Saint Helena), was the seventh largest in the Napa Valley.

Many years later the renaissance of Chateau Montelena Winery began with the leadership of Jim Barrett. Jim made his first wines in 1972 and decades later, this celebrated family-owned winery continues to thrive with Jim Barrett and his son Bo Barrett.

The 2007 Chateau Montelena Cabernet is layered with ripe plum, blackberry, dried black currant and rich cocoa. In addition, there are undertones of earth, leather and vanilla. The wine is rich and mouth filling and culminates in a nice spicy ripe fruit finish.

シャトー・モントレーナの豊かな歴史は、1882年、サンフランシスコの実業家アルフレッド・タブ氏が284エーカーの土地をセントヘレナ山（マウント・セント・ヘレナ）のふもと（カリストガから北へ2マイル）に購入した時にはじまった。このシャトー・モントレーナ（マウント・セント・ヘレナの短縮形）と呼ばれたワイナリーは、1896年までにはナパバレーで7番目に大きいワイナリーにまでなっていた。

長い年月を経た後、シャトー・モントレーナ・ワイナリーの復興がジム・バレット氏の指揮で始まった。バレット氏がはじめてワインを造ったのは1972年。その後何十年にも渡って、ジム・バレット氏と氏の息子ボー・バレット氏を中心に、この家族経営のワイナリーは繁栄し続けている。

2007年シャトー・モントレーナ・カベルネは、熟したプラムやブラックベリー、乾燥した黒スグリ、コクのあるココアなどの風味が層をなす。土や皮革、バニラの香りも漂う。口いっぱいに広がる豊潤な風味が、やがてスパイシーな熟したフルーツの風味を持つ心地よい余韻となって残る。
