Flowers Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2009

In 1989, after many information-gathering trips to Napa and Sonoma, Walt and Joan Flowers, nursery owners in Pennsylvania, purchased 321 acres, including a ridge top, high above the Pacific Ocean on the northern Sonoma Coast. Flowers' estate vineyards were some of the first planted on the "extreme" Sonoma Coast. The cool maritime breezes and coastal fog cool the vineyards during the heat of summer allowing fruit to fully mature with fresh, complex flavors and lively acidity.

Medium-light garnet color. Cherry compote aromas are accentuated by fennel spice and violet. Flavors evocative of roasted meats, olives and citrus add to the complexity. Acidity is balanced with supple tannins to produce a smooth finish.

ペンシルバニア州で苗木業を営んでいたフラワーズ夫妻が、ナパとソノマへ幾度も情報収集旅行に出かけた後、ついに321エーカーの土地を購入したのは1989年のこと。その土地はソノマ・コースト北部にあり、太平洋からはずっと高く、尾根になっているところもある。フラワーズの自社畑はソノマ・コーストの「極地」にブドウを植栽した最初の畑でもある。冷涼な海洋性のそよ風と沿岸性の霧のおかげで、真夏の季節でもフレッシュで複雑な風味と生き生きとした酸味をもつブドウが熟す。

色は薄めの紅色。香りは、チェリー・コンポートにフェンネル・スパイスやスミレがアクセントとなっている芳香。ローストしたミートの心を揺さぶるような風味にオリーブやシトラスが加わった複雑な風味。酸味としなやかなタンニンのバランスが良く、滑らかな余韻が楽しめる。
