Maboroshi Chardonnay Los Carneros 2010

Tom & Rebecca Kisaichi made up their minds one day and decided to give up their comfortable lifestyle and leave Japan in order to try their hand at making wine. Neither had any formal training in the field. Tom and Rebecca's family & friends called their scheme a "maboroshi" of a dream. To them, maboroshi appeared to be a frivolous hallucination, but to them it was the beginning of an extraordinary adventure.

After a brief time working and gaining experience in Bourgogne, France, they moved to California, where they continued their adventure and began studying winemaking (Tom) and viticulture (Rebecca).

Finally in 1999, after chasing this vision, they started their own wine brand, Maboroshi.

Not far from the quaint country wharf, Cuttings Wharf, on the San Pablo Bay in Napa you'll find the Cutting Wharf Chardonnay vineyard. Since 1978 the Jacobs Family has tended their cool climate vineyard in the renowned Carneros appellation of southern Napa. Tom and Rebecca felt this vineyard would best express their Chardonnay. 

The Maboroshi Chardonnay aroma hints of pear and honeysuckle, and the palate is enticing with notes of pineapple, honey, pears and a slight citrus undertone. Only 180 cases made.

マボロシ　シャルドネ　ロス・カーネロス　2010

キサイチ夫妻（トムさんとレベッカさん）がそれまでの居心地のいい生活をあきらめ、ワインを造るために日本を去ろうと決心したときには、夫妻のどちらにもワイン造りを正式に勉強した経験はなかった。家族や友達はみな、その夢は「幻」だと言った。「幻」は取るに足りない幻影と見なされることが多いが、二人にはこの「幻」は驚くべき冒険への入り口だった。

二人はフランスのブルゴーニュでしばらくの間働き経験を得たのち、カリフォルニアに移る。ここでも二人の冒険は続き、トムさんはワイン醸造学、レベッカさんはブドウ栽培学を学んだ。

そして、1999年、ついに夫妻は自社ブランド「マボロシ」をはじめた。

ナパのサンパブロ・ベイ（サンフランシスコ湾の一部）にある田舎の古びた桟橋、カッティング・ウォーフ。カッティング・ウォーフ・ビンヤードはその桟橋からそう遠くないところにある。ジェイコブス家が1978年以来ずっと世話してきたビンヤードだ。ナパ南部の名声の高い冷涼なカーネロス地区にあたる。キサイチ夫妻は自分たちのシャルドネを表現するのには、このビンヤードのブドウが最適だと考えた。

マボロシのシャルドネは洋ナシやハニーサックルを思わせる香り。パイナップルやハニー、洋ナシの風味にシトラス系の風味も微かに漂う。わずか180ケースのみの限定生産。
