Saldo Zinfandel by Orin Swift Cellars California 2009
Dave Phinney, the man who brought you The Prisoner, makes this delicious zinfandel, Saldo. The Spanish word "saldo" mainly refers to "balance on hand" and sometimes it can mean "from here and there". As far as Dave was concerned that was the perfect name for this wine that represents the best of the best lots made by him from vineyards all across Northern California. Monte Rosso, Eagle Point, Rockpile, Bismark, Beatty, Page Nord, Duarte, Solari, Evangehlo, Battuelo’s, Tofanelli, Korte, Mable Tiedemann, Frediani, Lewers, Alta Vista, and Bald Mountain are just a few of the vineyards Dave uses for Saldo.
The 2009 Saldo is rich, ripe and full bodied, with aromas of strawberries, black cherry, brambly black fruits and spice. The aromas follow through to the palate with mouth coating, lush tannins and a spicy finish. Enjoy this with pizza, roasted chicken or a juicy steak straight off the grill.
