John Balletto started farming in Sonoma County at the age of 17 in 1977. Today he owns 280 acres in western Sebastopol devoted to wine grapes. 2001 was the first year that wine was made under the Balletto label after the conversion of substantial vegetable ranch land into vineyards. The winemaker is Dan Cederquist.
This ruby-colored Pinot Noir opens with intense aromas of bright red fruit and warm savory spices with hints of dark toast and forest-floor earthliness. In the mouth, it provides flavors of a ripe red plum and red raspberry blend with notes of strawberry. This wine is medium bodied and its crisp acidity keeps the wine lively and mouthwatering. The finish is dry, while its acidity and fruit flavors linger for a little while. Very elegant and delicious.
