The "puzzle" of Conundrum lies partly in guessing the range of grape varieties used, because the exact composition is never revealed. The wine’s core profile remains thoroughly Californian, with Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Napa Valley, Muscat Canelli from Tulare County on the Central Coast, and Chardonnay and Viognier from vineyards in Monterey County.
Conundrum has a floral bouquet nose with a dominance of honeysuckle. Muscat is the defining factor in the aroma of this wine. The wine enters with a Chardonnay weight to it then quickly lightens up to reveal the additional varietals. Sauvignon Blanc adds a crisp herbal element while the Viognier adds a spicy character. The Chardonnay brings weight to the mid palate and Muscat adds an undeniable honey character to finish things off.
Conundrum is an excellent food wine that can be enjoyed with a wide variety of international cuisines and a whole range of courses, from appetizers through dessert. And of course it's delicious alone.
